Fast-growing neighborhoods on larger lots
Hesperia grew from about 5,000 people in 1970 to over 60,000 by 2000, according to Wikipedia, with the main wave of newcomers in the 1980s. The Census Bureau's 2024 five-year American Community Survey puts the median home year at 1988, about 82 percent of its 30,425 housing units as single-family detached houses and about 67 percent of occupied homes as owner-occupied.
Third-party listing pages describe The Estates at Silverwood as a gated master-planned community of single-story homes on large lots, Willow Oak Estates on Main Street as a 55-plus gated community, and Silverwood builder listings quote an HOA fee. We could not confirm any of this with the city, so check your own association's rules. A gate on a large lot is often a long way from the house, which makes a failed remote or a drifting gate more of a nuisance.
On a long drive or at a shared entry we start with the gate and hardware, then test the operator, the sensors and the remote receiver.
- Gates on homes from the 1980s and 1990s
- Entries on larger lots and long drives
- Keypads, remotes and receivers in planned communities

What the high desert does to a gate
Wikipedia's weather table for Hesperia, which cites a 2014 Weather Channel source, lists mean daily highs near 99 degrees in July and 60 degrees in January, about 6 inches of rain a year and occasional snow. The city rises from about 3,200 feet in the north to about 4,000 feet in the south, and summer monsoon thunderstorms can cause power outages and flash floods.
Edison named Hesperia in a possible wind-driven shutoff notice, and NBC Los Angeles reported Hesperia among San Bernardino County communities in an Edison shutoff warning on October 8, 2019. When power goes out, an electric gate stays stuck unless its backup battery is healthy, and wind and dust load sensors and tracks.
Before wind season, test the backup battery, wipe the photo eyes and make sure you know how to release the operator by hand.
- Test the backup battery before fall winds
- Keep tracks and photo eyes clean
- Know how to release the operator by hand
What customers say
Real reviews from our Google listing, copied as the customers wrote them.
Great to work with, gave us good advise and very knowledgeable with garage door springs . We could not find anyone to do our repair ASAP as it was a small project, but that did not matter to them. They traveled 2 hours to get the work done. Tech who did our repair was very personable, fast and did an excellent job.Theresa · Google review
I was really happy with the work Emil did for me. He was a responsive communicator, arrived on time, and did a quality job on the repair I needed. I would hire him again without hesitation.Serenity · Google review
Technician, Emil, was prompt and efficient to identify and fix the issues with our garage door. Rest assured that I won’t hesitate to call these folks if repair is needed.MeMee · Google review
Emil responded to my request for service promptly. He scheduled service for the next day and showed up on time. He was friendly and polite. He Immediately identified the problems and fixed them effectively and efficiently. He showed resourcefulness in coming up with a used part for an old door opener control and in coming up with a practical solution for stabilizing the door connection to the opener. Price for the work was very fair. Great company !! Thank you!!Christina · Google review
"Our garage door broke this morning, which was less than ideal. We were certain that it would cost a fortune to get it repaired on a Sunday, assuming it could even happen, but we knew we had to try. I called several companies and only two returned my call. One said that while they could send someone out, it would cost considerably more than if we could wait until Monday. While I appreciated the honesty, again, I wanted it fixed today. The other was Emil Garage Doors. When I had called they said they would call back. I did get a call back from Emil, less than an hour later. Anyway, on to the service. He let me know that it would cost the same to come today or tomorrow, it didn't matter. WOW and WOW again! He said that he could head here in about an hour. Additionally, when I asked him the cost of the various things it could be, what he quoted me were prices that were what the other place wanted to charge me after the service call fee and the hiked up hourly rate for the Sunday call! Upon arrival, he looked at the door, told us a few things that he noticed, and in no way did he ever try to "up-sell" us something we didn't need. He told us our opener was what they use, and top of the line. He replaced the gear drive (maybe that's the name:)) and upgraded our rollers (that was a suggestion, but, one we totally understood and he in no way said we "needed" to). I think he was in and out in 45 minutes at most and our garage door is quieter than before by a TON (thank you rollers) and, more importantly, it works and nobody had to miss work on Monday to make it happen. Thank you so much...I can't recommend your company enough. "Pamela · Google review
Emil is delightful, knowledgeable, professional, and capable. He promised to make the process easy and he did. From our first contact Thursday mid-day through completion of the project Saturday at Noon, everything was 100% perfect, and we are extremely happy. We are amazed when we look outside and see our beautiful new door, so soon after searching on google. Emil and his company deserve 100 stars but we are limited to only 5Dawn · Google review

Permits, HOAs and emergency access in Hesperia
City permits. Hesperia's Building and Safety Division can be reached at (760) 947-1311 or building@hesperiaca.gov, and City Hall is at 9700 Seventh Avenue, main number (760) 947-1000, with the city's site at hesperiaca.gov. We could not find a city statement on whether a gate, a gate operator or its wiring needs a permit, so call Building and Safety before a new gate or new electrical work.
Fire service and fire zones. The city contracts with San Bernardino County Fire for fire and emergency medical service. San Bernardino County adopted fire hazard severity zones in 2025, and the fire district publishes an interactive map at sbcfire.org. We could not confirm which Hesperia addresses sit in a zone, so check the map before you change a gate or clear around it.
Emergency access. Gates can affect how fire and police reach a property. Ask the local fire department about key switch or Knox box requirements before you install or change a locked entry.
HOAs. If your neighborhood has an HOA with an architectural review board, ask before you change the design or color of a gate. We can write a scope of work for the review.
Safety standard. Automatic gate operators are covered by the UL 325 safety standard, which calls for entrapment protection such as photo eyes or safety edges. We test those devices before the gate goes back into service.
Hesperia gate repair: questions we hear
Is there gate repair near me in Hesperia?
Yes. Emil Garage Doors repairs swing and sliding driveway gates in Hesperia (ZIP codes 92345 and 92344) and the neighborhoods next door. Call (213) 340-4232, tell us your street or neighborhood, the gate type and what it does, and we book the soonest visit. See gate repair near me.
Is there electric gate repair near me in Hesperia?
Yes. Electric gate repair near me in Hesperia means a technician who repairs the operator, control board, sensors, remotes and backup battery as well as the gate itself. Call (213) 340-4232 and we book the soonest visit. See electric gate repair.
What is the difference between gate repair and electric gate repair in Hesperia?
Gate repair means the gate itself: hinges, posts, latches, wheels, tracks and frames. Electric gate repair means the parts that move it: the operator, control board, sensors, remotes, keypads and battery. Most service calls need both checked, so we start with the gate and then test the electronics. See gate repair.
Why does my electric gate hum but not open?
A humming operator with a gate that will not move usually means the gate is jammed or a part in the operator has failed, such as a capacitor or gear. Stop using it and call us before the motor burns out.
How much does gate repair cost in Hesperia?
The price depends on what failed, the size and weight of the gate and the parts. We quote after we see the gate or photos, and before work starts.
My gate does not work during a power outage. What can I do?
Most operators have a manual release, and many can use a backup battery. Use the release as the manufacturer directs and call us. We test the battery and the control board, because a flat battery or a board that lost its settings after an outage is common.
Should electric gates be serviced?
Yes. A yearly check of the battery, sensors, hinges or track, and operator keeps a gate from failing at a bad time.
Can you repair a gate operator from any brand?
We repair most residential operators. Tell us the brand and model, or send a photo of the unit. If parts are no longer made we explain your options.
Which ZIP codes do you serve in Hesperia?
Hesperia uses ZIP codes 92345 and 92344. ZIP 92340 is for PO boxes only. ZIP 92344 also carries the Oak Hills alias, and Oak Hills is an unincorporated community next to Hesperia, so call us with your address if you are not sure we reach you.
Do you repair gates at planned communities in Hesperia?
Yes, we repair entry gates and driveway gates. Many planned communities have an association that controls the gate or its access system, so check with your association first. We can work on the operator, sensors, keypad and remotes.
Do power shutoffs affect gates in Hesperia?
Edison has warned Hesperia customers of wind-driven shutoffs. A gate with a healthy backup battery keeps working through a short outage, and a gate without one needs its operator released by hand. We test batteries and control boards and show you how to release the operator.
Can a handyman fix a gate?
A handyman can handle a loose latch or a dead remote battery. A failed operator, a control board or a gate that has dropped off its hinges needs a technician who can test the controls and the safety devices.
Do you repair garage doors in Hesperia too?
Yes. See garage door repair in Hesperia for springs, cables, openers and new doors, and garage door repair near me. When you ask for both we can look at the gate and the garage door at the same address.
